Interview Outfits

Let’s not underestimate the importance of getting the perfect interview outfit. You want to wow the judges when you walk in and be memorable.

Your physical appearance is one of the biggest factors that people consider when forming an impression of you. When you go to an interview, you only have a short time to show the interviewer who you are.

Did you know we tend to remember the first information presented about something better than information presented in the middle.

Research shows that colors can greatly affect our moods and the way other people respond to us. Amazingly, colors can even change our heart rate, blood pressure and respiration, as researchers Keith Jacobs and Frank Hustmyer discovered in 1974.

Check out how your colour choice for an interview outfit could psychologically impact you and your judges:

Green - This color denotes freshness, safety and harmony.

Blue - This is the color of truth and wisdom. It also has a calming effect and is linked to intellect.

Brown - The color of stability, brown is also seen as masculine.

Black - This power color can convey feelings of mystery and seriousness.

Yellow - This is the happiest of all the colors and usually stimulates joy.

Red - This is the color of aggression and passion. It also increases metabolism and raises blood pressure.

So when you walk into a room, before you speak and before smile! The first impression is based on your outfit and the colour of that outfit.

Funnily enough, your last impressions could be just as important as your first one. The recency effect is our tendency to remember the most recently presented information the best. This effect explains why the last few things a person says to us tends to shape our overall impression. According to the Atkinson-Shiffrin memory model, we’re able to remember that information clearly since we’ve paid attention to it, so it has entered our short-term memory.

So make sure to end your interview with a memorable striking and interesting last sentence.
